Tarangire is perhaps best known for its large herds of elephants.
The park is home to around 2500 elephants and herds of more than
200 have been viewed from the lodge veranda.
With its varied habitats and permanent water in the Tarangire River
the park is home to a large diversity of wildlife; 94 species of
mammals, and over 500 bird species have been recorded in Tarangire.
'Tarangire Safari Lodge, with its fine cliff top setting
above a sweeping bend in the river, is one lodge on the northern
circuit that any birder ought to insist is on their itinerary'
Phillip Briggs in 'Africa Birds and Birding Magazine', May 2002
